Loni Efron
Founder and Director of ilon Art Gallery
Significant gallery milestones include Loni Efron’s first Gallery show; Annie Leibovitz’s Current Works at James Danziger Gallery in Soho in 1993. Loni’s first museum exhibition was in 1999 for David LaChapelle at Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome. From 2004 to 2010, she toured globally with Mark Seliger’s In My Stairwell, showcasing his work across the USA, Europe, as well as Australia, Brazil, and Japan. In 2011, Loni co-founded 401 Projects with Mark Seliger, an artists’ gallery in the West Village.
Building on her deep engagement with art and photography, she established ilon Art Gallery in 2014—a vibrant cultural space within a historic Harlem brownstone, featuring over 60 curated exhibitions (to date), complemented by openings, lectures, panels, classes, photo shoots, and film premieres. In 2020, ilon Art Gallery joined the global market on Artsy. In 2021 minted the first NFTs, which were added to her online gallery shops. In 2024, ilon Art Gallery went international, starting in Czechia. Coming soon in the summer of 2025, find us in Miami.
About Loni Efron
Loni Efron is passionate about nurturing both emerging and established artists. Her dedication to preserving photographic histories and supporting artistic careers is reflected in her work with prominent archives and foundations. As founder and director of ilon Art Gallery, she dedicates herself to showcasing and supporting both emerging and established artists. Her passion for photography and fine art led her to open ilon Art Gallery in 2014, creating a vibrant community space that celebrates art in a warm, intimate setting within a historic Harlem brownstone, an ode to the original galleries.
Loni's journey in the arts began in the early 1990s, working as a black-and-white printer and archivist for Annie Leibovitz. Recognizing a critical need for archival expertise among photographers, she founded ilon & Company, offering specialized services and customized database solutions that have supported top-tier artists and photographers. Her impressive roster includes David LaChapelle, Mark Seliger, Lynn Gilbert, and many others. Her dedication extends beyond preservation—she mentors these artists (and foundations) on archiving, technology, and best business practices, helping them monetize their collections. Her deep involvement with artists’ archives—working closely with Michel Comte, The Robert Mapplethorpe Foundation, Todd Eberle, Alfred Wertheimer, Richard Gere, Bob Gruen, Joel Meyerowitz, and many others—underscores her dedication to preserving photographic legacies.
In addition to her archival work, Loni is an accomplished editor and curator. She has collaborated on over 20 books and nearly 100 exhibitions, many being very high-profile artists. Her work as photo editor on Keith Richards’ autobiography, Life, earned critical acclaim, and she has contributed to several other notable publications.
Loni has always championed technology. In 1996 She started ilon and Company and tagged herself as a digital and archival consultant because there was so much technology in her work. In 2018 Loni cofounded Intaglio Blockchain, for the authenticity and provenance of objects. We attend the first Christies Art and Technology Conference in London, and Loni guest speaker at the Getty in LA as well as UCLA; both lectures on blockchain. In 2020, she launched a storefront on Artsy.net, realizing the importance of a real global community. The NFT Shop opened in 2021, and multiple online galleries, including ilon.com and Opensia.io, to promote artist collaborations and accessible art and collectibles.
A proud member of Harlem Arts Stroll, APAG, and ASPP, and a founding member of Harlem Park 2 Park and Harlem Days Harlem Nights, Loni is committed to strengthening her community and enriching the cultural landscape of Harlem. Her ongoing projects include the upcoming Harlem Art House.
A final note…. Loni believes art not only enhances personal expression and home aesthetics but also serves as a valuable investment, expanding portfolios and increasing net worth.
